I went to an energy healer today. Not my usual type of therapy, but I am hopeful and open. It sounds like magic, but if I do see and feel results (gradually happens over two weeks), I don't need a scientific backing to justify my well-being.

Update on my 12 week Artist's Way course...
I'm in week eight! Most notable changes include: quitting my job in the uninspiring docklands of Melbourne, leaving town to "defrost my soul" in Byron Bay for a month, and enrolling into a visual arts course for next year... Fuck yeah!

I'm really excited for this lifestyle upheaval -wheels are definitely in motion. I feel really empowered and optimistic again, it's a great thing! I recommend it to all. I've also become a big believe in synchronicity, and I feel a calm faith that my life will turn out exactly how I want - as long as I am in touch with that sincere desire.

However, I am getting slack with the daily and weekly exercises, but this lets me see that they really do work. Basically, I do them when I feel ready to do them. Julia Cameron does not exaggerate when she says certain weeks will be 'turbulent' and 'overwhelming'.

So, next week I leave for sub-tropical Australia. Things are looking pretty fucking awesome right now!

Some exciting things are happening!

One of them is the Bon Iver + James Blake collaboration - two of my favourite musicians! The idea sounds HEAVENLY to me, and we'll all know exactly what it sounds like on the 24th of August. Six days and counting!

The other exciting thing happening is the total lunar eclipse during the Meredith Music Festival. It's a place I really wanna be at to see this happening. The Meredith site is a such a magical location, I couldn't think of anything more perfect.

The full lineup was also announced, and even though I don't know many of the bands playing I'm so pumped for the whole event!

I painted today for the first time since December, despite my usual laziness and fear of failure... and you know, it felt so SO good!

I'm in my fourth week of The Artist's Way course (see this post for more info), and the changes in my perspective, my outlook, my everything - they are spectacular! Most noticeably, I've got my optimism back. That's the best thing about it so far.

I've also discovered that the only life for me is the artist's life. I really can't imagine it any other way! Now it's time for me start seeing the sign posts of that journey, because I feel like there are so many directions I could take. I'm so excited! I could be a painter, a writer, a poet, a photographer, a makeup artist, an interior decorator, a musician, a chef... anything!

If you feel stuck, lack luster, completely miserable - pick up this book, please! IT'S A GOD SEND.

What would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail? - unknown

This week I'm dealing with courage and embarrassment.
I have only now realised how the fear of embarrassment, of making something bad, has prevented me from ever even trying.

Right now, I have two applications in front of me - one for a position as a campaigner for The Wilderness Society, and another for the position as The Greens Victoria news editor. I want to do both and I know can. But I'm scared of filling out the application! Stale self doubt blurts out from me and pushes down my inner child who feels like they can do anything. My own fear hushes me and puts me back in 'my place'. Not cool.

I'm gonna turn this around and take some small risks. I want to do this and I will, no matter how hard the Boring Betty inside my head will try and turn me away.

Wooo! I'll let you know how it goes!

Tuesday, I took myself on an artist date. I meandered through Fitzroy for a couple of hours. I nosed around a florist, sat at a cafe for a while, rented a movie from an obscure video store... I didn't know what I was looking for, but I wanted something to happen. It started spitting down and getting dark, so I walked my way home. I was actually a bit sad that I hadn't already been miraculously inspired. I was mentally ready to retire to my bed for the rest of the night. As I was halfway home a girl standing in the rainy street blurted out to me 'do you want your hair cut?'... My mermaid hair is now too short to even be tied up! I loved my mermaid hair, but this feels so carefree and light! Turns out, it was just the thing I needed. Cut off all the old stuff.

I always thought long hair was a symbol of free spirits and carelessness, now I think it's all about the shorties!

Ahhh, so what does anyone else think - long or short hair feels freer? Or, maybe no hair at all!

This week is my beginning of a twelve week course called The Artist's Way, by Julia Cameron. I decided to finally read this book (after posting about it last September). I'm going to share my findings on this blog! So far, I've started the morning pages and artist's date. I had to wake up at 5am on Tuesday morning just to make time for the morning writing, but I'm sure it will be worth it. Friend's have told me of their writer friends or musician lovers doing their own morning pages ritually as a way to nurture inspiration and creativity daily. I'm going to adopt the 'if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, talks like a duck... it is a duck' mentality. I'll do whatever it takes to get my creativity back! So here goes nothing...

Arabic meaning of the name MINNAH for a girl: kindness, grace, blessing

In a dream, I used the word minnah to talk about the essence of creativity with my art teacher. Before this I'd never known the word, so I thought it was strange it would be in my dream. It turns out that minnah is actually a name, and it's used meaning is freakishly similar and connected to the meaning of my own dream's minnah.

There may be significance behind this, or there might not be. I do hope more will be discovered about humans and dreaming because there seems to be so much in it.

And! How beautiful is this song?! I was at a wedding on the weekend and the duet was performed right in front of me. The singers looked and sounded like angels, they even seemed to be hovering. On that autumn afternoon in a small church on a hill in Sydney, they were angels.

It was a spine tingling, breath taking, show stopping performance. And now I can appreciate where these terrible expressions come from!

Bat for Lashes is a big favourite of mine, and for the first time will be coming to Australia - to do one show, in Sydney.

I don't understand why a popular artist like Natasha Kahn would limit herself to only one live performance. I feel so let down! International musicians are a real treat for Australians, and I believe it's a treat for musicians to be able to travel to and tour Australia.

I've been really stressed out this week, and yesterday was the emotional climax.

I was freaking out about assignments, worrying about family, dreading work, and confused about friends. Just after receiving The Final Straw of bad news my housemate, unknowingly, quietly came into my bedroom and sat down next to me on my bed. She asked me what was up, and she listened to all my worries. Then, she began to tell me the story of her family and her life up to today in a matter-of-fact way, like 'it is what it is' and despite it all she's still a happy person.

Her stories weren't to make me feel silly about being stressed out about comparatively smaller things, but to help me realise that even when it seems like EVERYTHING is going to shit, you'll still be alright and that things will work themselves out sooner or later. It's all about keeping a calm perspective and knowing that in this life tears are wasted.

That being said, I need to get off the internet and to finish these overdue assignments... the weekend is so close! As of tomorrow (hopefully) I will be free of academic obligations for the next four months, and I can't wait to do exactly as I pleeeeaaaaseeee!

The latest issue of Russh magazine is unexpectedly inspiring. It's the art issue.
I stopped buying Russh this year because it was much too focused on clothing, trends, and skinny models, but I always loved the pieces on music and art. I decided to pick up this issue not knowing of it's special focus on art, but because I was in a creative mood and I thought the photographs in Russh magazine would supplement my creativity well.

I'm thankful to myself for giving into the whim of buying it. This month's issue of Russh has been a wonderful source of ideas and motivation for me to take creative action.

Here are some quotes which really resonated with me. I don't want to forget them, so I'm going to put them down here. Maybe you will get something from them too...

I tend to have dreams in which I try to resolve social dilemmas and problems. I also sometimes have dreams where I'm being chased by someone evil. And, I have reoccuring dreams from my childhood but they extend and develop themselves now.

My favourite dreams are the ones where my romantic fantasies are played out. They feel so real, and it hurts to wake up.

Today, I'm feeling nostalgic for every euphoric experience I've ever had.

I think this has happened because of my weekend I spent in Queensland at the Splendour in the Grass music festival - it was one of the most pleasurable times of my life yet, and everything was almost perfect.
Euphoria is such a brilliant sensation that sometimes I believe I need to feel it no matter what, I don't care how.

But with feeling euphoria comes the inevitable downfall, the hangover and the inability to be content with a stable and normal condition of mind. Having once felt an intense pleasure and high makes everything else excrutiatingly unpleasurable and bleak. For a while, there's no colour in everyday life.

I'm now seeing that intense pleasure is a distraction from long-term and real happiness (even though I'm still figuring out what that is). Still, I think there could be some value of seeking pleasure. Pleasure is natural, and if it's a part of experiencing life, I want to feel it all, in both its ups and downs. What's the point of living if we don't explore all our physical existence?

I was struggling for most of this week with the low that euphoria brings, but now I'm starting feel acceptance is the best idea and that simple and everyday things can be comfortable and ultimately pretty important.

Afterall, I guess that's where I was living before I experienced what I'll always know as The Best Weekend of My Life (Yet). That's the thing with pleasure, I always forget how I felt before. But I know that I was definitely alive then, and I still am now.

Sometimes I suspect that the Universe (or perhaps, the Universe is just the Internet) knows what I need, and it gives me information and ideas - mainly hope - when I need it most.

I've found a fictional character, Celine, whose expressions and ideas are so similar to my own that it's both extremely disturbing and flattering. I find comfort in watching Celine live problems similar to my own - yes, it's not just me! - but it's quite disheartening having to admit that all my thoughts and words are predictable and unoriginal. From now on I'm a movie character. I'm not me, I am Celine.

Anyone else have a twin fictional character? Unlucky (or lucky) enough to not have one?
